Hi again – just a little update. We visited Oxford with Jenny on Friday and it was amazing. So many huge old buildings. The temp was around 4 degrees, rather chilly. Many thanks to Jenny – our personal guide. Saturday we headed off down the M4 motorway before branching off through the countryside to Bath. The old buildings in the villages were very tall and narrow, close to the road. It felt like you were driving through tunnels not streets. Bath was amazing. Famous for its Georgian Architecture and it’s old Roman Baths. A very beautiful city!! Happy to walk the streets and just look.
We drove on into Wales and visited a winery east of Cardiff and then headed off to find some where to stay. It got dark and we got a bit lost! It took a while to find some accommodation but managed in the end. We learnt an important lesson – check in somewhere before nightfall. We kept ending up on dark deserted county roads or in the industrial areas of big towns. An eventful hiccup but part of the process of learning. Today we left Pencoed and headed off to the Black Mountains. Visited some of the towns on the way in the Merthyr Tydfil area – but they were very run down so continued on to the mountains and then to Brecon. Lovely town. Followed the A470 to Builth Wells – stopped for lunch – then crossed some quite isolated countryside to Aberystwyth. Pretty amazing drive! We are staying at a farm stay tonight near Aberystwyth. A dairy farm – interesting to have a look around. To bad about the smell!! Off to the Snowdonia mountains tomorrow.
Much love from two tired travellers
