Hi everyone…an update on yesterday. We left Aberystwyth and headed through Snowdonia to Conwy and visited a 13th century castle/ruin there. Very interesting – the English king who built it was one I have read about recently – Edward the 1st. He was the one who finally took over Wales and his son was the first English Prince of Wales. So interesting to walk around and imagine all the people that had lived there in the past. You can still picture how grand it must have been.
We left Conwy and traveled towards Chester, bypassing it to the north and then drove between Manchester and Liverpool on the M6. Lots of industry and smog. Left the M6 at Preston and headed to the Yorkshire area and spent the night in a pub called the Craven Heifer just outside Skipton. We are checking out the Dales and the North York Moors today. There is a little town in the Dales called Askrigg where All Creatures Great and Small was filmed so will visit ‘Skeldale House’ and ‘Darrowby’ the fictional town in the series. Not sure where we will stay tonight – will wait and see. Always hard to judge distances. We seem to get to places a lot quicker than we think! The villages we have passed through everywhere are amazing. The main streets are barely two cars wide and often wind around. I am surprised at how many old houses are still in good repair and being lived in. People obviously prize their history.
Cheers and love
Di and Reg
