- Arriving in England
- Heading into Wales
- Conwy Castle
- Yorkshire
- Yorkshire to the Lake District
- Crossing the border
Left Reeth and drove through the Swaledale area – beautiful! We then cut across the hills from Gunnerside to Askrigg. It was only 2 degrees and very misty. Checked out all the “All Creatures Great and Small” hotspots in Askirigg before continuing on to Hawes – a small Yorkshire market town – and turned towards the Lake District. Lots of little villages and very green farmland on the way. A quick visit to Windermere before heading over the Kirkstone Pass – the highest point in the area. Lots of snow and thick fog. There is a little inn at the top of the pass, built in the late 1400’s. We stopped to have a look. Very low ceilings, tiny rooms, lots of character. Ended up chatting to a couple having a beer at an outside table. They must have been keen – we could hardly see them for the mist. Headed down the other side of the hills – lots more lakes, streams, villages and hills to see. We then drove to Carlisle for the night. A big industrial city – yuk! Found a motel – Premier Inn – and have settled in for the night.
Love again
