We left the pub in Skipton yesterday morning and headed through the Yorkshire Dales to Kettlewell. Lovely village. Decided to head up into the mountains – really hills I guess! – on our way to Leyburn. A really good choice! Beautiful misty views, rushing streams, and a bit of snow. The only other traffic we saw where sheep grazing on the road. So wild and isolated. Absolutely stunning! After Leyburn it was on to Middleham – a popular centre for horse studs and training. Not unusual to see horses being ridden through the streets. We then cut across to Thirsk and on to Helmsley – on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors. We just dipped into the Moors, taking another one of those back tracks to Osmotherly. Then on to Richmond. A bit of a loop. Richmond is quite a large market town. We ended up buying some wet weather jackets and warm tops ready for Scotland. We had already bought some hiking boots while in Reading – getting prepared for the snow! After Richmond we drove over even more hills and found a B&B at Reeth, a very cute little village. The views driving down into Reeth were breathtaking. A busy day and some beautiful scenery. Love Yorkshire!!
Love Di and Reg
P.S. Both Wilkinson and Hargreaves (my maiden name) are real Yorkshire names. No wonder we felt at home!
