Another update from Scotland. We are still enjoying our time here, getting very attached to our house sit pets and realizing more and more that the sad part of this whole thing is leaving people, animals and places behind. Still, if you feel a little sad that means you have grown fond of them and that’s a good thing. It would be sadder to be here and not become attached – if you get my drift! Andrew and Rosie are such cards – we just crack up at times. Nibbles is still grumpy but starting to let us pat him a bit and is a bit more vocal – though that’s probably telling us off for something! The ducks are no longer in mutiny – we will not move! Instead they are trying to escape into the field at every opportunity.
We drove to Fort William yesterday to shop. Our big outing of the week! The road goes along the water’s edge (lochs and canals) or through forests the whole way. Stunning. We had a short visit to Fort William – beautiful little town surrounded by mountains. We then drove into Glen Nevis, a very narrow valley nearby. Glen Nevis still has a very unspoiled, rugged feel. We followed a narrow road along the valley floor, visiting some very shaggy Highland Cattle along the way. They looked very content – but who wouldn’t be when you consider where they live. Right at the very end of the road is a walking trail leading into a wild gorge. The trail is narrow and cut into the hillside, little waterfalls to cross, and corners to navigate. A deep crevice falling away from its edge! The sign warning of the danger says it all! Apparently the track winds into the gorge for about 25miles. We didn’t quite go that far (understatement really) but went far enough to get a feel for its beauty and also the danger! Glen Nevis is near Ben Nevis – the highest mountain in Scotland. Unfortunately because the valley is so low and narrow you can’t see it. We would love to do a trek one day and check it out.
Well, we also some house sitting news to report. We’ve just got a 2 week house sit in early May in Provence, France! It’s in a small city called Digne les Bains – quite near the French Alps. Very excited!! We have a two week gap between the Galway house sit and Provence, so have decided to spend one week in County Kerry in the south of Ireland, and one week in Northern Italy. We have booked a flight from Belfast to Milan – amazingly cheap fares. We will then drive down to Tuscany – we’ll base ourselves there before heading to France. I can’t believe I am saying that – we are still a bit stunned by all of this!!
Well that is all for now. Hope all is well with everyone,
Cheers
Love Di and Reg
