We went into the big smoke today to shop – Inverness. We didn’t think we would go there much as there are supermarkets in small towns as close or closer, but we like it. Lots of character and the people seem friendly. We had a rather unpleasant surprise on the drive in. About 5 miles past Drumnadrochit, just before the Clansman Inn, we rounded a corner to see a 4 wheel drive on its side at right angles to the road, wheels spinning. The passengers were just starting to climb out the windows when we reached them, both unhurt but a bit on the pale side. Anyway after a few minutes to gather their thoughts and with a few other people stopping to help, the male passenger and Reg pushed the car until it tipped back onto its wheels. It started like nothing had happened and they were able to drive away. We continued on to Inverness very grateful that it had all ended so well.
There is plenty of shopping choice in Inverness. Numerous supermarkets and lots of small shops in the alley ways and side streets near the city centre. Also has a large 2 level shopping mall. The mall on its own has just about everything you could need as far as food, clothes, music etc. There is even a small Marks and Spencer – which seems so strange – makes us realize we really are in the UK. As neither of us are big on shopping it’s still only a once a week happening but if we have to do it, Inverness is a nice place to go.
We also recently had an afternoon out watching Motorcycle Time and Observation Trials. There was a big meet being held near Tomich and since Reg was a very keen participant in his younger days we headed off for a look. Amazing terrain for the riders to navigate. Every time the rider touches his foot to the ground he is penalized. I don’t know how they do it!
Cheers and Love
Di and Reg
PS It is snowing again!!
