We made it over to the west coast!! Friends Edward and Heather kindly offered to take us out for the day. They love the west coast and are regular visitors. So we headed off on a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the mid teens. The weather is certainly getting warmer. We drove to Drumnadrochit, turned south along Loch Ness and then west at Invermoriston. We then followed the road along Loch Cluanie, on to Loch Duich where we visited the Eilean Donan Castle, and then north along Loch Carron. All beautiful scenery, reflections of the mountains in the water, little towns along the water’s edge. A beautiful drive.
We then had a real change of scenery as we made our way across the mountains towards the coast. We were on one of those tiny one way tracks so common in the highlands. The countryside was rocky, wild and barren. We drove into a lookout area and climbed a rocky hill to get better view. Felt like you could see for ever. We arrived on the coast and had a lovely lunch at a pub in Applecross Bay. Nice to have a break. We then followed the coast road, a very hazy Isle of Skye in the distance, before turning east again. So much diversity!!
Next we skirted the edge of Upper Loch Torriden – a very popular scenic route. Amazing mountains. Very rugged and wrinkly – like being on another planet! I am definitely relying on the photos to give you any sense of just how beautiful the west coast of Scotland is! We stopped for afternoon tea before heading home through Muir of Ord and Beauly. A great day with Edward and Heather – they told us heaps about the history of the area as we drove along. Our own personal tour guides. Very much appreciated.
Well, it seems strange to have nearly finished our house sit in Scotland. We head into Inverness tomorrow afternoon and stay in a hotel near the train station. We need to catch a train to Edinburgh early Tuesday morning. We then fly to Paris Tuesday afternoon. We have rented a small studio apartment at the border of the 7th and 15th Arrondissement. It’s just east of the Eiffel Tower, very close to transport, with heaps of local shops, cafes and restaurants. Found it on the net, bit of a last minute deal, so hope it’s okay. Our first step of course is to get there! We need to catch the train from the Charles de Gauille Airport, travel across to the other side of Paris, and then change trains to get to our apartment. We have directions and it all seems to make sense. We will see!
Bye for now
Much Love
