Hi again,
Just a little update before we head over to Dingle to the internet cafe. It’s been wonderful staying in County Kerry. We could feel ‘suburbanitis’ lift as we drove away from Galway and headed into the countryside. Yeh!! We have been staying on the Dingle Peninsular, a narrow strip of land with mountains running along its back. Lots of mountain roads to explore – amazing views on both sides of the mountains. Also some wonderful drives along the coast. Our cottage is comfortable and cozy. Set down a very quiet country lane, surrounded by bush. Very relaxing after a busy day. A great place to stay!
To get to the town of Dingle we have to drive over Connor Pass on one of those narrow winding roads edging its way along the side of the mountain – the type of roads we love. Amazing views back to our house, then more amazing views as you cross the peak and head down towards the town. Dingle is quaint and picturesque. Little shops and pubs. Everything you would need. Really has a lovely feel.
We’ve also been for some lovely walks – one in particular to the hilltop at Brandon Point, near where we are staying. Beautiful views out to the open sea and back to the mountains surrounding the bay. Plenty of sheep to keep us company. We also drove the famous Ring of Kerry on the neighbouring Iveragh Peninsular. Absolutely stunning, very touristy but the beauty is there regardless. Makes no difference if heaps of people have visited. We left the tourist route and cut across the mountains, passing through little farming villages and some wild barren plateaus. The coast was stunning, wild and rugged with mountains running down to the sea. As you can tell this is our type of country and a welcome relief from our time in the big smoke – well nearly big smoke!
Off to Belfast tomorrow, hoping for another walk this afternoon. Weather a bit unpredictable here!!!! Will see how we go.
Cheers and love
Di and Reg
