Now yesterday was a lazy Sunday – a chill out day, just catching up on some emails, hanging about. We pulled out a local map to check out what little trips we could do from Digne, just familiarizing ourselves with the area. Anyway, we realized there were some minor roads and little villages at the back of us, up over the surrounding hills, so we headed off for a drive. Well it was amazing. We had no idea what lay beyond those hills! Firstly there were great views back towards Digne followed by a beautiful lavender farm framed by mountains, then as we wound our way north we came across a gorgeous, deep valley – just stunned us!! We felt like Columbus discovering America! Just couldn’t find a safe spot to stop and get any decent photos – sorry! We just followed the road along the edge of the cliff, heading toward the village of Thoard. We parked the car near the village square, watched some of the locals play a game of ‘boules’ – they were very friendly – and had a wander around the village. The views from the edge of the village were just lovely. After visiting the local cafe we made our way home along the valley floor. The whole outing was one of those unexpected little treats!
Everyday chores must be done. Cleaning, cooking, washing clothes. But we can’t complain. After we got things up to date this morning we visited the River Bleone – our local river here in Digne. Spent time just walking along its very rocky banks. Something so special about alpine rivers!! It was a nice way to end the day.
