We picked up our hire car this morning and headed off to Bosham, a little village on the coast south of here. We had fish and chips for lunch in a little pub that sits right on the shore line. Lots of warnings about parking your car in front of the pub, when the tide comes in the street floods. Lots of green seaweed on the road. The pub was very old with lots of character – the ceilings were so low I was in real danger of doing myself some damage – and the food was good. Worth a visit.
We then headed off to Brighton. Unfortunately we took the coast road and struggled along very busy roads through some larger towns. Not our favourite type of travel. Brighton however was great. We found a park near the harbour and walked along the very famous Brighton Pier. The pier was surprisingly long with heaps of rides (very scary!!) and food stalls. Great views back towards the beach, esplanade, and city. We had a lovely walk along the esplanade – a real buzz with people just enjoying the day. Visited some of the nearby side streets – great architecture. Brighton is a very beautiful city. We then took the country route home through the South Down National Park. We were pleasantly surprised at the lack of traffic and the pretty views from the road. Plan to return and check out the area this Sunday afternoon – maybe lunch in a pub and a quiet Sunday drive.
Much love Di and Reg
