Monday morning we were up early and packed. Said our goodbyes to Tom, Cindy and Lucas and drove the short distance to Bernkastel-Kues – situated on the banks of the Moselle and the main town and wine centre for the area. Very touristy but lovely. We had a walk around the town – very old, wonderful architecture. Amazing bridge over the river with really gorgeous views. Reg found a regional wine tasting museum and tasted 100 local wines – he spat a lot!! Great way to get a picture of an area’s wines. He wasn’t that impressed overall – not the standard of the Rhine region. I’m sure he enjoyed trying them anyway – labour of love! Meanwhile I found a hairdresser and had a much needed haircut. Yeah! Lots of hand gestures etc but we got the job done.
We hit the road again, just following the river – more vineyards and river views. Stopped in Polich for lunch – found a great little park with lovely views of vineyards and hills – before crossing the border into Luxembourg. Kept driving through the hills and countryside till we found a camp site. Right near a motorway, a bit noisy but I guess convenient for travelers eager to make a quick get away. Had another social evening with a couple from Holland who were on their way home after a holiday in Italy. They were riding a 1600 Gold Wing Motorbike towing a camper trailer that folded out into a tent. Very impressive!!
Heading back into France today. Our next destination – Champagne.
Love again
Di and Reg
