It’s been pretty quiet here at Chateau Valcreuse. The weather is getting cooler, the days a little shorter. We are up early when we’re on breakfast duty – still dark when we climb the stairs to the kitchen. Beautiful sunrises though! We have lots to prepare – orange juice to squeeze, fruit platter to organize, cold meats and cheeses to slice, local pastries and bread to cut and arrange on a special wooden stand, crepes or eggs to be cooked. And heaps of coffee to make!! We have a special machine to make the coffee and it’s very popular. Have to pick our mornings to serve breakfast outside these days – using the main dining room instead. Can be a bit of a challenge to set the huge dining table if we only have two guests – but we are learning how to make it work!
We had a lovely day out a few days ago – a real highlight. We visited Chateau Parc & Jardins in Azay-le-Ferron a village about 30 minutes away. Huge gardens and lawn area, large impressive building. We took a tour and viewed some of the interior – unfortunately no photos allowed. It was interesting, especially the kitchen with its old ice refrigerator and picnic “esky”. Also numerous bedrooms with tiny little beds – people must have been very short back then.
We still walk into La Roche-Posay for the market or an afternoon aperitif – or just to take Florence for a walk. It’s a really lovely village. We are still enjoying being a part of life here at the chateau – meeting lots of interesting guests, getting to know staff and fellow house sitters – lots of socializing, looking after Florence, cooking the odd 5 course evening meal!!! Feeling quite settled.
Love
Di and Reg
