Our drive to Stryn was fine, had to go the long way around as the ferry we needed doesn’t run from Ortnevik on Monday mornings. Life here certainly revolves around ferry schedules. Lovely drive back along the fiord and over – another ferry – to the other side. Heading north. Cross country over mountains, along valleys. More beautiful views as we arrived at Nordfjordied – another fiord – and the village of Utvik. Then just followed the edge of the water to our destination – Stryn. About a 4-5 hour drive – a lovely day. It was mid afternoon – feeling a bit weary – so first task was to find our hostel. Again basic but clean, very friendly staff. They upgraded us to a double bedroom with an en suite – tucked away from the main area. A nice little bonus!! Dumped our bags, had a quick look around the town, checked out the tourist office, and settled in for for the night.
We had the next day in Stryn so decided to visit the Briksdalsbreen glacier, not far away at the end of the Oldevatnet Valley. Lovely drive along the valley, then a 3km walk to the glacier, then a drive back along the valley – just as beautiful both ways. The glacier was interesting, the walk was steep at times but it was worth it. On the way back to Stryn we detoured down the Lovatnet Valley – recommended by the girl at the tourist office as something special. It certainly was! Mind blowing gorgeous!
Off over the mountains again today – heading for Alesund on the coast.
Lots of love Di and Reg
