- Time in London
- Gunnerside, Yorkshire Dales
- Revisiting some favourites!
- Road to Fort William
We left London and drove up to Yorkshire, dropping into the city of York on the way. Amazing medieval city centre. Impressive gateway and narrow road to negotiate – grateful we managed to find a park just outside. The streets were abuzz with Christmas shoppers, lots of lights and decorations. Heaps of character. We drove on to the market town of Thirsk and found a bed in a nice hotel overlooking the cobbled market square. Yummy evening meal in the bar before an early night.
The next morning we drove on to our holiday cottage in Gunnerside – a small village in the Swaledale Valley in the Yorkshire Dales. The area’s as beautiful as we remembered – it’s been on our “must revisit” list. This is in addition to our “must go to” list. It’s getting complicated! Our little terraced cottage is on the edge of the village and is very cute. Living area upstairs to make the most of the views, one small double bedroom and bathroom downstairs. Lovely rushing stream across the road from us with a little stone bridge that takes you into the village. Traditional English pub, narrow road, little stone village houses! Amazing views as you walk up into the hills behind us – old stone farmhouses, stone walls, misty hills and little villages on the other side of the valley. I am sure we will head off to investigate further afield. Just lovely sitting by the fire and recovering from our recent exploits at the moment!!
Love
