We are back into the swing of things at Manna. Always plenty happening. Guests coming and going, all adding their own flavour to the house. We are still enjoying it. A little more settled since Open Day – lots of preparation needed to get everything ready. All went well.
We had a great 4 day break in the farm cottage near Makahu, a small settlement in the “backcountry” of Taranaki. Beautiful countryside, lots of peace and quiet, and a cozy little cottage to stay in. The cottage was set half way up a hill, overlooking the river and valley below. Lots of lovely walks around the farm and along the river. We didn’t do much – total sloths – but why move when you have it all at your fingertips. There was everything we needed at the cottage – including a dishwasher, efficient wood heater, and good cooking facilities. We had beautiful misty mornings – our favourites – and lovely sunny days. Also visited the famous Whangamomona Pub – what a mouth full! It is on the Forgotten World Highway that runs between Stratford and Taumarunui in the Mt Ruapahu region. Lots of character and very interesting history. In 1989 the regional council boundaries were redrawn; Whangamomona was moved to a different area. The locals were not happy and the “Republic of Whangamomona” was born! While a bit tongue in cheek and really a form of protest the town continues to celebrate Republic Day each year. It is now a big tourist attraction!
We are hardly suffering at Manna as far as beauty is concerned. Great beach in walking distance, lovely gardens and outlook, and the odd beautiful sunset. Not bad really!!
Not a lot of news since our wings have been clipped. Hope you are all okay.
Much love
Di and Reg
