Hi………more excitement as daughter Marni and friend Jodi visited us in mid June. They left behind husbands and children and had a little adventure! We enjoyed our trip with Ginny so much we pretty well repeated ourselves. First there was some time in Taranaki. Visited Pukekura Park – beautiful gardens, trees, lakes and water features – then a meal at an Indian restaurant. We also joined guests and staff in the Manna centre for an evening meal – lovely to see friends and family get to know each other. Then off to Mt Ruapehu – staying again at Chateau Tongariro. The weather was a little less wet than our last visit with Ginny but plenty of fog when we arrived. The mountain was very hidden behind clouds but we assured the girls it did exist! We stayed for two nights this time so able to see a bit more of the area. Lovely walks through forests and alongside rushing rivers and waterfalls – great views from a lookout area above the chateau. Also a drive up to the snow fields – a little bit of snow for the Aussies – and still had time to chill out at the chateau. Chateau Tongariro is such a good place to stay. We had a sauna and swim in the plunge pool, dinner in the dining room with the “gliding” waiters, and had a beautiful “high tea” one afternoon. The girls skyped their families back in Aussie – they really enjoyed filling everyone in on what they’d been up to. Lots of excitement!
The next morning we followed the road past Lake Taupo, calling in to Huka Falls, then visited Rotorua and the Red Gum Forest. Then it was off to Katikati and our next nights accommodation. We were staying in a batch/shack belonging to a friend of a friend – lovely views over the beach and estuary. The next day we had a little trip north to the Coromandel region – another area we’d visited a while back. We stopped at Thames for some great fish and chips on the wharf, followed by a yummy ice cream. We decided to keep traveling over the mountains to Coromandel town – full of character. It was dark by the time we got back to Katikati but we’d had an amazing day! It was off to the Auckland airport the next morning to see Marni and Jodi off. We had so much fun showing them around. Thinking of starting up our own touring service – getting to be a habit!!
All our love
Di and Reg
