Well spring equinox has happened here – 20th March – so it’s officially springtime. The weather had been warning up but winter was determined to hang on! Temperatures went from hovering in the low pluses to minus 15 with a wind chill of minus 25. We went from strolling to church in gently falling snow to not even thinking about it – very happy to drive! But the cold snap was only short lived. Things have now warmed up again, snow disappearing as I write. Not sure but suspect that this is typical of spring. A cycle of warmer weather with the snow melting, roads clearing, temperatures over zero; then a cool change and more snow. We of course love it!!!!! However there is a down side. As the snow melts it often refreezes. Gets very scary when out walking on the roads or footpaths! Those little ice patches – often not easily seen – can be very dangerous! Spend more time looking at your feet than looking at the scenery – matter of survival!
We still try to walk to the supermarket every few days for the exercise. Take the car for a big shop but love the chance to pick up odds and ends on foot. Especially when those odds and ends are beautiful French bread, cheese and red wine! Kind of defeats the point really, but never mind!
We have been singing in the choir at our local church in Beaurepaire. The very amazing pianist/worship leader is trekking in Nepal so we have three enthusiastic guitarists and a handful of singers filling in. We have been enjoying singing a variety of songs including some by Bruce Cockburn and Bob Dylan. We go to practice of a Wednesday night and rehearse on a Sunday morning before the service. Great people and a lot of fun.
Went for a drive yesterday – left Beaconsfield and the suburbs behind. Headed towards Rigaud on the highway, but then looped back through very flat farmland to Saint-Clet, on to Corteau-du-Lac, and then home. Lovely drive, nice to see a bit of the local countryside. Haven’t gone very far during this house sit – but that’s okay. Enjoying the quiet life.
Our squirrels are still regular visitors. Waiting for the raccoons and skunks to appear but they’re still hiding. Managed to get some photos of a beautiful Red Cardinal the other morning. They are so “flighty” it’s been a real challenge, but I was finally able to sneak up on him!
We are taking a bus tour to New York over Easter – very excited!! More details next time.
Love again
Di and Reg
