Well we are settled into our house sit near Perpignan. We had come down with colds before we left Canada and unfortunately have really struggled to get well again. But we are getting there!!! We spent two nights in Toulouse when we first arrived in France and had a bit of a look around. We would go for a half hour walk and then back to the hotel to rest up again. That’s all we could manage! The centre of Toulouse is amazing!!! Lots of busy side streets with little shops. Running off of the side streets are very cute, very narrow alleyways – often curving like crescents. Beautiful architecture everywhere! Loved it. There is also a huge square in the middle of the city. Large buildings, such as the town hall, at one end; heaps of cafes and shops at the other. It had a great atmosphere with many couples, families and friends sitting around eating and drinking. Also found smaller squares tucked away – more cafes and little shops – and less busy areas – more residential, where people live. There was always something new to discover as we wandered about. Would love to visit again – next time with a bit more energy and a lot less coughing and sneezing.
We then caught the train to Perpignan – very impressed with the train ride. Erik – home owner – took us up into the mountains to stay at one of their holiday cottages in the village of Vernet les Bains. They still had lots to do to get ready for their trip to Denmark so we had a little “holiday”. We were still pretty sick so our time in Vernet was very quiet, catching a few rays of sunshine when the weather permitted. Did manage some walks up to the very old village centre. Typical narrow streets, lovely views, locals playing boules – part of village life. Erik picked us up after a week and brought us home. We are now officially in charge of two elderly dogs – Loopie and Cassie – some chickens, and some wild cats that get fed each day. The cats live in the back gully and keeping the mice numbers at bay.
Love to all
