- New York! New York! (1)

- New York! New York! (3)
Our last day in New York was a free day. We were dropped off at Times Square where we stood in line to buy a Broadway show ticket. There’s a discount ticket outlet right in the middle of the square – it’s where you get last minute tickets for shows scheduled that afternoon or evening. We hoped to see Les Miserables but it’s a bit hit and miss – you get what you can get. We waited for an hour and a half, spending time watching the crowd in Times Square and checking out what other shows were on – just incase we needed a second or third choice. But all was well. We got our tickets for the 3pm performance of Les Miserables! Big smiles!
We had heaps of time so we walked – yes more walking! First we headed off to 5th Ave – every Easter Sunday morning they hold a special hat parade. People wear hats of all kinds – big, small, vaguely traditional, totally out there/weird – but nearly always colourful. The street was closed off and was very, very crowded. We then wound our way through the crowd, passed all the shops, along the edge of Central Park, to the Frick museum. Lots of beautiful art and furniture. It was once the home of Henry Clay Frick, a very wealthy New Yorker who died in the early 20th century. He gifted his home and art collection to the city of New York. Really enjoyed checking it out. We then walked back to Times Square – again through beautiful Central Park. Time for our Broadway show. It was absolutely amazing!! Singing excellent, acting brilliant, sets incredible. Can’t say anything more!! So worth going.
After the show we walked – yes still walking – to the Rockefeller Centre to get tickets for the observation area at the top of the building. Apparently great views of New York – but they were sold out till 10:30 that night. There were so many people in Manhattan for Easter – everywhere was very crowded. After checking out the famous ice skating rink at the foot of the Rockefeller Centre – you see it in movies – we decided to just chill out in Times Square until our pick up time. Could hardly move but such a buzz! We were happy to see our bus arrive and make our way back to New Jersey for our last night. Monday was travel back to Montreal day. We were tired but very excited. We’d had such a great time!
