- New York! New York! (1)
- New York! New York! (2)
- New York! New York! (3)
Just had 3 days in New York and loved it! We left by bus in the early hours – 3:30am!! – on the 3rd April from downtown Montreal. Alexandra gave us a ride into the city – thanks heaps, much appreciated! About an hour later we crossed the border into the USA and it turned out to be quite an “adventure”! As non-Canadians we were taken off the bus into a “process centre” filled with federal police in black uniforms and carrying guns. All very straight forward in the end but a “different” experience for us. Life in Australia is very simple by comparison.
We arrived in New York around lunch time after a great trip. We were dropped off and went for a walk with our tour guide Philip to 5th Ave, visiting the Trump Tower. Very impressive building! It has a beautiful atrium area right in its centre with lots of plants, seating, a café, and heaps of natural light. There was also an unexpected surprise. Performing in the atrium was a very large, very young, and very talented orchestra from Germany. The music was beautiful – it just filled the whole space. After listening for a while we all headed off in different directions – there was about 20 of us in the group – to grab something to eat. There were a few cafes in the Trump Tower to choose from but we decided to wander out onto the street to see what we could find. We ended up at a hot dog stand a couple of blocks away and had a very famous New York hot dog “with everything” for lunch. We were not disappointed. Yum, yum! We returned to the Trump Tower atrium to meet up with the tour group. The orchestra was still playing so we just sat and drank it in until everyone else arrived. We then all headed off on an hours walk – down 5th Ave checking out the shops, a quick visit to St Patrick’s church, passed by the Rockefeller Center, and finished at Times Square.
After the guided walk was finished it was just the two of us – everyone went their separate ways again. We had about 6 hours in the centre of New York before our bus arrived to pick us up to take us to our hotel in New Jersey. Our map was out and we just walked. Walked around Times Square and Broadway. Walked to Central Park and back. Found Hell’s Kitchen and its restaurants. Decided on an Irish Pub for our evening meal and had some great steaks and a very nice red wine. Good to sit still and rest our feet for awhile! We then walked back to Times Square to see all the lights against the night sky. Spectacular! After such a big day we were exhausted – very happy to see our bus arrive, get driven to New Jersey, and check into the hotel. Room nice – bed comfy.

lots of love
