At last we have recovered from our colds!! We understand that we haven’t been the only ones suffering – there seems to be a bit of a cold/flu thing all over the world at the moment. So many of you have reported friends or family being under the weather. Not nice!
Well here we are at Villa Bel Horizon – our house sit near the villages of Villelongue del Monts and Saint Genis des Fountaines. Villelongue is the closest so we walk into its small shop/supermarket to get our daily supplies. They have the most amazing baguettes!!!!! We have visited a restaurant in the village – wonderful – but will tell you more about our socializing another time. Saint Genis is a larger more vibrant village with a twice weekly market and a large supermarket on the edge of town. We are able to use one of the older cars here at the house sit to collect fresh spring water and do a weekly shop. So we’re not starving by any means – something we are very good at avoiding!
Reg met a local winemaker just after we arrived. Anette and Erik get their wine from his cellar door and we have followed suit. He has a great “quaffer” for one and a half Euros a litre – you buy it as a cask or bag in a box. We also purchased some bottles of chardonnay and some very nice red – blend of shiraz, grenache and carignane. Reg had a great time chatting to Michele Sanac – the owner winemaker. His father Andre is very famous in France – especially in this area. He played rugby for France in the 1950’s so some of our NZ friends may have heard of him.
We walk the dogs -Loopie and Cassie – everyday in some nearby vacant land – lots of trees, shrubs and little trails. They love it although Loopie’s hips collapse a little as he walks. So the pace is slow. One of our chooks went to “chook heaven” not long after we arrived so hoping that is the only casualty during our stay. Both dogs are elderly but seem happy and in reasonable health. The wild cats are now quite friendly – I think the fact that the two younger dogs are away on holiday with Anette and Erik has made a difference. The older dogs just stay out of their way. The younger dog enjoy the chase!!
Au Revoir!
Love as always
Di and Reg
