We walked into Cambridge City the other day and visited The Fitzwilliam Museum. A pretty amazing building full of paintings, statues, pottery, ancient books and bits of furniture. I was very excited to recognise some of the paintings! One in particular of Henry V111 standing tall in all his splendour – Reg wondered if there was any royal resemblance – check out photo below. Other familiar paintings by Renoir, Monet, van Gogh, Picasso………….. Wandered from gallery to gallery – different centuries, different countries, different styles. Really enjoyed ourselves.
We went to a nearby town called Ely today with our friend Jenny. Huge cathedral for a small town – apparently built to make a statement of power authority by the Normans – after the 1066 Battle of Hastings. Letting everyone know who’s the boss!! Ely was on an island at the time but later on the surrounding land – mostly waterlogged or marshland – was “claimed back”. This flat reclaimed land has become famous for its rich fertile soil. Also known as “The Fens”. The River Ouse runs through the centre of Ely – a lovely river with a beautiful walkway running along its edge. Parks, pubs and cafes on one side and on the other lots of moored canal boats. Canal boats are long and narrow and are sometimes used as permanent homes. Also hired out for holidays. We had lunch at a local pub, then visited an antique shop where Jenny fell in love with a Davenport writing desk – Victorian era and made of beautiful walnut. She is checking out her budget to see if she can return and purchase! Next we visited Newmarket for a very light afternoon tea – still full from lunch! Newmarket is the centre of horse racing in the UK so lots of horse studs in the area. Horses very visible in the many paddocks in or around the town. They are even trotted through the town on their way to early morning exercises. We were there a bit late in the day!
Love as always

Yes, making some lovely friends here in Cambridge. I can report that Reg wasn’t able to eat all his lunch! No surprise there. As for no red wine on the table – we can be sensible occasionally. A side you haven’t seen very often Tarsh xxxx
Hi there that sure is a big piece of fish Reg there wouldn’t have been room for the red I don’t think. You look happy and fulfilled in your wonderings and that is great.
Will email you soon
Lovely to hear from you Heather. The fish was HUGE!! No hope of finishing it all but Reg gave it a good try! xxxxx
