We have settled into “Packolet” – our house sit within a house sit. Marion, Alan and family are in the USA and we are happily looking after their old farmhouse and gardens, Minnie the dog, and Tess the cat. No great hardship – the house and gardens are beautiful, Minnie is little honey bunny, and Tess spends most of her time asleep in the laundry or hiding somewhere outside. She also likes the odd cuddle or leg rub as she passes by. There’s an extra bonus at this house sit – we have a car!!!! Very handy to drive over to Mourne Park – still lots of work to be done – the grass keeps growing! Also handy to visit our nearby village Kilkeel and local areas such as Cranfield Bay. We took Minnie there for a walk the other night – one of those duties you just have to do! Lovely to just wander along – lighthouse sitting in the bay, gorgeous shimmering light on the water as the sun was setting. Great views over Carlingford Lough to Ireland. All very beautiful, very peaceful.
We’ve already had visitors at Packolet – Ocea, Elaina and Mikaela. Ocea is our granddaughter – she works in London as a nanny. Elaina and Mikaela are doing the same. Apparently there is a little “nanny” club – they help each other, socialize together, and have little “mini breaks” all over Europe. Elaina is from Dallas Texas, Mikaela from Hervey Bay in Queensland. They arrived last Friday lunchtime – they’d flown from Gatwick to Dublin that morning, then caught the bus to Newry. We visited Mourne Park that afternoon – our favourite place. We went for a long walk along the river and then helped Chris move Maurey and Pepper down to the lake. Not that it was any trouble. Pepper was on his lead – Maurey just trotted along behind. They really stick together. Best of mates. We had a full day out with the girls on Saturday – visited Cranfield Bay and Green Castle, then wound our way over the Mourne Mountains to the Silent Valley reservoir. All really different – all very interesting. Sunday was reserved for a walk to the top of Knocknee – the large hill that sits behind Mourne Park. Amazing views – long climb but really worth it. We had a picnic lunch overlooking the Irish Sea – very spectacular! Then it was home for a BBQ at Packolet. The girls headed off Monday morning – sad to see them go. They left with just a very small glimpse of Northern Ireland – hope they enjoyed it as much as we do.
Raining here today so just chilling – Minnie is snuggled up in her little bed by my feet in the lounge, Tess snoozing in the laundry, Reg on his computer in the kitchen. A very quiet household!
Cheers and love
