It’s definitely the quiet life here in Uzer. Shopping a couple of times a week and taking Balto for walks are our highlights. And sometimes – when we are feeling especially adventurous – we combine the two! We can drive into Bagneres a couple of ways, depending which supermarket we are going to visit. We skirt around the edge of the hills if going to “Intermarche” or “Lidl”- lovely views down into Bagneres; beautiful mountains towering above the town. If we’re going to “Carrefour” we cross the River Adour near the town centre – lots more traffic that way but a bit closer. We sometimes park at the supermarket and walk Balto along the river. Lots of trees – the river rushing by. He then waits patiently in the car while we shop. We often visit Col de la Palomieres – local mountain pass – on the way home. It’s quickly become one of our favourite spots. Beautiful views back to Bagneres on one side – far reaching vistas to the mountains on the other. Friendly free roaming horses checking us out as we wander by. We usually leave the car at the lookout area and continue to climb up the hillside – good for fitness and the views just get better. Balto, of course, loves it. We still take him to our local village river – Le Luz – for his usual afternoon walk. He never gets bored – his enthusiasm for chasing sticks into the river never seems to diminish. He’s such a character!
We did venture further afield recently and drove to Gourgue d’Asque – about 1/2 hour south of Uzer. Just amazing scenery on the way! More green hills, deep valleys, snow topped mountains. Especially enjoyed the village of Asque – set in a wide valley full of sunlight, rugged mountains in the background. Quite breathtaking. The gorge was beautiful – the wild River L’Arros winding along, an old watermill ruin on the river’s edge, a tree lined walkway. We had lunch at a picnic table near the old watermill and then went for a long walk – Balto on his lead. Drove home the same way – wanted to check things out from another angle. Still gorgeous.
Our house sit horses – Oephnix and Coonix – have moved paddocks. Amazing how much grass they eat! The nights are much colder now and their water trough can freeze over – another little job for us in the morning. I think it’ll become an everyday task as winter sets in. We no longer sit outside of an evening – wine o’clock is inside these days. Still we have lovely views from the kitchen window – so not suffering too much! Balto of course is always near by – sitting at our feet while we enjoy a red, supervising us with the horses, leading us on our walks, guarding the car while we shop. Entertaining us with his little games. We have fallen big time – but what’s new! He’s a great dog.
Love as always

Lovely to read ur blog. Views look fabulous, stunning. We have had a few hot days recently, 36degC but returned to a Winter in the last two days, rain and windy , temps of 17degC. , which I prefer.
Are you back to Mourne Pk in December?
Take care. Carol
Hi Carol….yes back to Mourne Park in early December, then on to a house sit in Canada from late Dec till mid March. Looking forward to lots of snow – house sit is 500kms north of Vancouver.
I’m not sure about your outside bathroom. I don’t think we’d do an autumn/winter house sit that didn’t have an inside shower room, at least!
They make us tough in Aussie – must be the convict blood!
Is that the bath water after you’d been in Di?? lol xx
cheeky!!!!!
