Just a very quick update! Flying to Chicago in the morning – packing done thank goodness so able to catch my breath and send off some Christmas greetings and our latest news. The week before Christmas was a bit of a blur – spent most of our time chainsawing, chopping, splitting and carting firewood. Love being out in the cool air, dressed in old grotty work clothes – layers being peeled off as the physical work takes its toll. We really enjoy having Frodo with us as we work. He’s always running about, sniffing out goodness knows what, frantically digging holes. It’s very satisfying to see the wood pile looking healthier – will keep Chris going until his wrist is healed and he can get back on the axe and lift heavy things. We also did some last minute Christmas shopping in nearby Newry – always busy – doubly so at this time of year. It was a nice day out but we were happy to get back to Mourne Park – can’t beat peace and quiet.
We spent Christmas Eve at Pakolet – Marion and Alan’s home near Cranfield Bay. They’re the owners of Mourne Park. Frodo was dressed in his Christmas jumper for the occasion – he got very excited – he knows a special outfit means he’s going out. He was beside himself waiting for us to get organized – checking on us – hanging around the front door. But things didn’t go to plan. When we arrived at Pakolet Frodo leapt out of the car to chase the resident cat. By the time Chris found him the Christmas jumper was nowhere to be seen – neither was the cat!! Not sure what happened. The Christmas jumper was found the next day – the cat had also returned. I’m sure there’s a story there! Anyway we had a lovely relaxed time – lots of very good wine, yummy cheese, great conversation.
Today – Christmas Day – was spent at the local Irish Football Club/Youth Club. We had volunteered to help out with the cooking but in the end we weren’t really needed. There were lots of helpers coming and going – there’s a very supportive community connected to the club. It was a wonderful meal – all the traditional favourites plus some extras. Also great company – the Irish are a lot of fun. Frodo was fed MANY MANY treats under the table – his tummy was bursting! And so were ours! A lovely day getting to know some Kilkeel locals. Thanks for making us so welcome.
Hope everyone has had a very joyous Christmas. Such a special time for us. Never ceases to amaze me – that little baby in the manger – God’s love touching the world.
Love Di and Reg
PS Our next house sit is at 150 Mile House, British Columbia, Canada. Looking forward to lots of snow!
