In the winter of 2015 we were in Beaconsfield, Montreal. It was the coldest February for 115 years. Lots of snow – one of our favourite things. Since then we’ve had the odd “flurry” in Northern England, the Pyrenees, and Northern Ireland – but nothing to write home about. Well, I did actually write home about it – I was desperate! So we decided to apply for a house sit in the Cariboo, Canada. Surely we would see some decent snow! Well, we have. We’ve been officially snowed in!! The biggest snow dump in the Cariboo since 1965! Breaking more records! A nice warm house, plenty of food in the cupboard, the fridge and freezer full, red wine supplies more than adequate – so pretty chilled about it all. Sorry about that – it was actually unintentional! To add to the excitement our snow plough truck had broken down and when we rang our “backup guy” his truck had broken down as well. So we just stayed put and enjoyed ourselves. Not completely lazy – Reg cleared the decking and we still “tried” to take Maggie for some walks. Her legs are so short she got lost in the snow! Very cute. We eventually borrowed Jeremy’s snowblower – he’s a friend and neighbour. It’s like a propelled lawn mower – gathers up the snow, blows it up into the air, and onto the ground. Reg walked it back from Jeremy’s house and up our drive. Things didn’t go as planned. The snowblower got stuck near the top of the drive – too steep and slippery. So Maggie and I came to the rescue! We tied a rope to the front of the snowblower and pulled it up over the hump – Reg steering from behind. Supergirls! Reg spent most of the day clearing the drive and making little walkways from the house to “Maggie’s Place” and the carport. The car was eventually “released” from carport prison – it’d been snowed in – absolutely no chance of driving it out. We wanted a real winter – we definitely got one!
I introduced Jeremy and Paulina in my last blog. Lovely family who live around the corner on Horsefly Rd. Six young children, number seven due any day. The children are very well behaved, the household very well organized. We’ve babysat a couple of times recently – really enjoyed looking after the children the other evening. Loved reading them bedtime stories and hearing what they’d been up to during the day. Jeremy and Paulina had driven into Williams Lake for a quiet meal together before the new baby comes. Not sure when they’ll get that chance again!
love
Di and Reg
