Not long to go now – under three weeks till we hit the road again. And as often happens we’re just getting to know people! Of course we’d already befriended the Hill family – Jeremy, Paulina and their 6 beautiful children. They live around the corner on Horsefly Rd. Got to babysit again recently. Buddled the children up and walked back to our place. Lots of fun in the downstairs playroom. We also had Emily with us – a very sweet teenager who was staying with the Hill family. Her sisters Stephanie and Heidi have also been visiting of late – a kind of rotation thing. The girl’s parents are close friends of Jeremy and Paulina. They live down near the USA border – have 12 children – number 13 due mid year. Now the main reason the girls have been coming to stay is to help Paulina while heavily pregnant with baby number 7 – and then after the birth. The exciting news is that baby Levi has safely arrived! 8lb 12oz. Born in the early hours of Feb 20th. We walked over this morning to have a cuddle and a catch up. What can I say – such a beautiful baby!
We’ve also met more Cariboo residents through a small house church in Williams Lake. We alternate weekly between Peter and Elizabeth’s house and the Williams Lake Seniors Centre – a very large retirement village. Nice to get to know some of the “seniors” when we visit – I think we are now technically part of that group! We always shop while in Williams Lake on a Sunday – we’ve become regulars at Walmart. Also have completed our tour of the local wine shops! Our little Sunday gathering belongs to a network of Cariboo house churches – part of the Canadian Presbyterian Church. We recently attended a mid week fellowship near Sheridan Lake – a good hour and a half’s drive from our house – just east of 100 Mile House. Had a great time. Introduced to lots of locals from that area and beyond – very yummy shared evening meal! Also went to the church AGM at nearby Lac La Hache. Another chance to meet more friendly people. Lots of chatting – lovely lunch. A bit of a theme! All this travelling around has meant more drives along the Cariboo Highway – one in particular is memorable. It was during a warm spell – the snow had started to melt and there was a lot of muddy slush in the middle of the road. A huge semi trailer decided to pass us – slush flying everywhere – our windscreen looked like it was covered with brown spray paint. Not a lot of visibility happening – windscreen wipers going like crazy – anti-freeze liquid being madly pumped from the reservoir under the hood. Managed to escape unharmed! A couple of weeks before we were covered in a cloud of “kicked up” snow – this time it was muddy slush. Quite glad Reg was driving both times!
Of course beautiful Maggie has been a very special Cariboo “doggy” friend. Still take her for walks to the lake – regardless of the weather! She’s always keen and we need the exercise. Not wanting to think about leaving her behind – already feeling teary!
Love
Di and Reg
PS will include a photo of a car for sale – sitting in a field just off the Cariboo Highway. Not sure if that particular sales strategy works this time of year!
