Although the Canadian spring hasn’t officially started – it’s an Equinox thing – the signs are definitely there. Warmer days – snow melting – the odd bud ready to burst – dirt on our driveway now peeking through the snow – walkways slushy and hard to navigate. We now have water continually dripping off the roof and onto the deck – the once thick white “roof icing” is disappearing. Interesting to navigate between the drips! It’s been fun to see the “roof icing” slowly slide off the little sheds in the garden and the carport. Hanging on for dear life – finally breaking in halves and crashing to the ground. Spring has sprung in the Cariboo.
Our life continues to revolve around Maggie – our house sit dog. She still enjoys walks to the lake – loves checking out everything in sight. Lots of ice fishermen of late. Had a chat with Joanna and Laura – guess I should call them ice fisherladies! They had a very cute red “eskimo tent” set up on the ice – very snuggly! Got the grand tour inside – holes in the ice, deck chairs in position. Maggie enjoyed lots of pats and cuddles! She seems to win people over very easily! When we’re not doing our “Maggie Duties” there are plenty of other jobs to keep us busy. Shovelling snow – less so now of course, cooking meals, normal laundry and cleaning. Reg is also very handy putting the kettle on for a cuppa! Well trained – I think I’ll keep him on!
Now melting snow also means the roads are in full view. Council workers who were spending their time driving big snow ploughs are now turning their attention to road maintenance. Lots of cracks and bulges in the bitumen – result of extreme cold. This of course hasn’t stopped us getting out and about. We had another visit to our neighbours – the Hill family. Met some of their friends – lots of children everywhere. Lovely day. They’d also had a rather unexpected visitor that morning – a moose in the backyard. At least it wasn’t a bear – they’re probably still snoozing! We also drove to Lac La Hache for a “Cowboy Cafe” in the town hall. Great music – yummy supper. Lovely to catch up with friends. Also sad to say goodbye – happening a lot again lately! We fly out from Vancouver next Monday – our time in Canada is almost over.
Love Di and Reg
