- Phillip Island
- Torquay to Apollo Bay
- The Twelve Apostles and more
We left Barmera last Sunday – time for a road trip to Phillip Island, Victoria. New TomTom in action! New little car put to the test! We headed south to Pinaroo and then south east towards Melbourne. Stayed our first night in a cute cabin near the village of Mt Macedon. Nice to leave the flat arid countryside of central Victoria behind and see some green hills and trees! Yummy tea in the local pub – great open fire. The next day we avoided driving into Melbourne – a more direct route but city driving is not our thing! Instead we headed further east to the beautiful Yarra Valley – lots of vineyards and wineries – and then skirted the edge of the Dandenong Ranges towards Phillip Island. Stopped off to check out the ranges – great to have a break from driving and take a walk through the forest – huge trees, abundant birdlife. Cuppa in the carpark before heading off again.
Arrived at Phillip Island late afternoon. Made our way to our next accommodation – a holiday retreat called “Allansfield” in the small fishing village of Rhyll. Lovely gardens, comfy cottage – settled in for two nights. Rhyll is on the north-eastern coast of Phillip Island – only a short drive to the main town of Cowes – everything at our fingertips. Lots of cafes and restaurants – no time to really check them out. Maybe next time! Phillip Island is a great holiday destination and famous for the Phillip Island World Superbikes Grand Prix and renowned Penguin Centre. Lots of holiday homes but heaps of people living there full time. Dramatic coastline, rolling farmland, beautiful seaside villages. We enjoyed exploring! Will include lots of photos.
After a couple of wonderful days we left Phillip Island and caught the ferry from Sorrento to Queenscliff – south of Geelong. Not far from the Great Ocean Road – our next adventure! Stay tuned!
Love
Di and Reg
