Our time in Victoria is coming to an end! We’ve been working at the Allansfield Healing Retreat on Phillip Island since early September 2018. It was one of those things – back from housesitting overseas, catching up with family in South Australia – totally chilled, innocent really – when Allansfield dropped out of the sky and landed on us. Wings definitely clipped! Long haul flights on hold. It was history repeating itself – same thing happened when were house sitting in New Zealand in 2010. Only that time it was Manna Healing Centre in the Taranaki. Ended up staying for nearly 4 years. You’d think we would have learnt the first time! Just kidding.
We’ve had some lovely times at Allansfield. Lots of guests, lots of socializing, lots of prayers, lots of laughter, lots of tears as people shared their grief, sadness, loneliness and disappointments. Such a privilege to be a part of it all. Many friendships made. Treasures to be cherished. We’ve also met lots of locals. Especially our neighbour Sylvia and her little black poodle Pepe. He has been officially adopted – the dog you have when you don’t have a dog! All the love without the vet bills. He’s sitting on my lap as we speak. Then there’s our friends from Hope Church – tiny group of people with very big hearts – and Chat n Chew – the drop in centre in Cowes. I somehow ended up Vice-Chair of the management committee of Chat n Chew. These things keep happening. Must learn to sit on my hands more. I just get a rush of enthusiasm, the hand goes up, my head starts nodding, and the deed is done. But I have to admit Chat n Chew has been a delight. Great to see connections made – love listening to the chatter as regulars catch up each week. All worth while.
Victoria is a beautiful state. Similar size to the UK – 10 percent of the population. One of the greener states of Australia with a variety of landscapes – snowfields, highlands, rainforests, flat arid areas in the west, beautiful beaches. Expanses of green rolling hills to the east of us – our favourite place for local drives and picnics. We’ve visited most areas of the state during our time here – will include lots of photos.
Not sure what the future holds. Nothing new for us – par for the course. Back to South Australia to catch up with family and South Aussie friends – and then we will just wait and see. Always interesting.
Love Di and Reg
